MWX0A5: First 0.5 mm Connector Cable to 250 GHz
Sub-terahertz test capability has been limited by the available interconnect infrastructure. VNA frequency extenders from Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, and VDI can reach 250 GHz and beyond — but until the MWX0A5, there was no coaxial cable assembly rated to match their frequency range. Engineers were forced to use waveguide transitions, accepting the insertion loss, the setup complexity, and the narrow frequency spans that waveguide sections impose.\n\nThe MWX0A5 eliminates this constraint. With a 0.5 mm connector on both ends and DC-to-250 GHz performance in a flexible coaxial assembly, it provides the missing link between the VNA test port and the device under test. The cable's approximately 7 dB insertion loss at 250 GHz is accounted for in calibration — the measurement system operates over its full frequency range with a single cable type.\n\nKeysight Technologies co-developed the 0.5 mm connector interface and validates MWX0A5 cables with their PNA-X and M9800A series frequency extenders. The collaboration ensures mechanical and electrical compatibility across the connector interface.\n\nFor semiconductor test engineers in Israel, the practical implication is access to true DC-to-250 GHz characterization in a single cable — relevant for mmWave transceiver testing, advanced packaging characterization, and qualification of sub-THz components.
